The highest mountain at the Balkan
Peninsula is situated in the southwest part of Bulgaria. The name
Rila is of Slavonic origin and is after the name Rula, which means
Water Mountain. The name perfectly matches the mountain’s characteristics.
There are more than 150 lakes that are the source of a great number
of rivers and streams.
